In the lubrication screw compressor, the lubricant is in direct contact with the compressor inlet air and compressed air. Compressed air squeezes the water vapour contained in it out of the air to form free water which is absorbed by oil. When the molecules are squeezed together, dust from the air escapes from the air. Compressor oils carry these contaminants to oil sumps, oil filters, and coolers. The heat from the compression dissipates the water vapor, and the filtration system removes other contaminants. The oil contains antioxidants in an attempt to reduce lubrication degradation due to internal conditions.
